Volunteer as a Court Appointed Advocate for children with The Florida Guardian ad Litem Program

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is appointed by the court to advocate for a child. Most of these children have been removed from their homes because of alleged abuse, abandonment or neglect. The GAL becomes familiar with the child and the child’s case and makes recommendations to the court to help ensure a safe, caring, stable and permanent environment. Roles of the Guardian ad Litem include: Information Gatherer, Community Advocate and Courtroom Advocate.

Volunteer with Foster Care Review

Foster Care Review’s mission is to promote the safety and well-being of abused and neglected children through volunteer case reviews and advocacy on behalf of children in Foster Care in Miami-Dade. Foster Care Review Inc. (FCR) helps the Juvenile Court provide oversight for the welfare of Miami-Dade children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect and are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court. FCR volunteers conduct review hearings to monitor the safety, wellbeing and progress to permanency of these children. It is the job of Foster Care Review and its volunteers to provide judges with information they need to make sound decisions regarding the future of foster children.

Volunteer as an educational mentor

Educate Tomorrow focuses on steering Florida’s foster youth who are in care toward independence and educational success. Educate Tomorrow mentors become the educational/career planners and life coaches for young adults who want to obtain higher education but are intimidated or unfamiliar with the system. Mentors motivate, encourage and assist these youth with researching and applying for post secondary education and obtaining financial aid to attend such institutions.
